Home is Where The Heart Is

After two years, we’re finally home.

Looking back as we began this amazing journey called “let’s sell our home and build a new house.” It will be fun, they said. It can’t be that hard, I said. Actually most of the people we told about the selling of Mayne Mill and erecting our dream home on a mountain in Hayesville, NC, thought we were crazy. At your age? I tended to believe most of the them as we dragged through the process. What in the hell were we thinking?

But tonight, as we sit on our tiny sofa in our tiny house, being closer than we’ve ever been - figuratively and literally - we understand the adage of “home is where the heart is.” Our hearts have been on this spot of land for decades, yet only now do we find ourselves nestled in the dirt and pines on a mountain called home.

This Christmas, we’re finally settled. And, for the first time in years, it actually feels like Christmas. I feel it, and that’s about the best gift I could have received.

Although the SEC championship game did not end as we had hoped, we still thought it was the ideal backdrop for our Christmas card. We’re in it for the long haul - just like Carson Beck. It’s an amazing feeling to finish what you start.
