From the highest point in Georgia—Brasstown Bald (Mt. Enotah) rising to an elevation of 4,784 feet—and descending 2,500 feet to the valley below, the mountains of Georgia beckon. According to legend, a great flood swept through the land, and everyone died except a few families who landed atop Brasstown Bald in a giant canoe—or riding on a turtle’s back according to some. On a clear day, the metropolis of Atlanta, some 85 miles in the distance, can be seen. Access the summit with a short hike or shuttle service from the visitor’s center.
