Murphy NC Barn Changes in Seven Months

August 8, 2024

Possibly because it’s the barn closest to our home, the Murphy NC barn gets our attention.

We began our barn research in February, 2024, and our road trips always lead us through Murphy. The photo (bottom left) displays how we find the barn in February. It had been repainted last year by Troy Freeman, so the words are brilliant white. The next photo (lower right) shows its condition in August with the middle of its roof caving in the middle. Wording is still visible but the structure is failing with time.

The Murphy barn is a legacy barn, one of the original barns painted during the 1960s. With more of the legacy barns collapsing and disappearing, this one becomes important for restoration - IF that is even possible.
